This whisky represents a first for Highland Park, as it combines whisky matured in first-fill Rioja casks with whisky matured in refill casks. The result is a rich and contemporary single malt whisky with an unmistakable character. Generous layers of sweet vanilla, sun-ripened peaches, summer berries, and full-bodied red wine blend seamlessly with a gust of heather-rich peat smoke.
The name and design of this whisky are inspired by the Norse legend of the Midgard serpent, which grew so large it could twist around the earth and bite its own tail. The packaging was developed in partnership with Danish tattoo artist Colin Dale, who used both ancient and modern tattooing techniques to tell stories on the skin.
Highland Park has a long and storied history, with the distillery in Kirkwall on the Orkney archipelago being founded in the 18th century. The distillery is famed for its lightly smoky character from its own peated floor-maltings, which make up around 20% of the barley used for distillation.

152/153 casks were laid down between 11th May 2000 and 29th October 2001, filled into 220-litre first-Rioja wine casks in January and March 2016 at 59.5%. 70 first-fill bourbon casks from 1999 were filled at a strength of between 63.6% and 63.7%. The casks were married together in September 2018 and filtered at 4°C.
