Fans of the distillery will be relieved to know that the whisky inside the new bottle remains unchanged, continuing to be a marriage of hand-picked sherry casks from the distillery's mature stocks. James MacTaggart, the Master Distiller of Isle of Arran Distillers Ltd., explains, "The reason we built our distillery here is because of the water. We tasted the water and it's indeed one of the best to be found in Scotland." The Arran Distillery, located on the Isle of Arran, is one of the few independent distilleries in the area. It was founded in 1994, though the construction was paused for a year after a pair of golden eagles nested nearby. Finally, in 1995, founder Harold Currie, a former Chivas manager, commenced distillation. Arran whiskies are produced using unpeated malt in specially designed copper stills that impart a particularly mild flavor to the single malts. The 18 Years Old matures in former small sherry and ex-bourbon casks and is currently the oldest edition from the house.
